6061 aluminum alloy (AA6061) is a heat-treatable, strengthened aluminum alloy with magnesium and silicon as its main alloying elements. It has good mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, and processing performance, and is widely used in the custom manufacturing of automotive parts.
 

Custom Manufacturing Process

Customization of 6061 aluminum alloy auto parts often uses precision machining processes, suitable for non-standard parts and small batch production (such as 1-1000 pieces). A typical process is as follows:

  1. Design and Quotation: Customers provide 3D CAD models or drawings, and the manufacturer performs DFM (Design for Manufacturability) analysis. The quotation is based on materials, complexity, and quantity.
  2. Material Preparation: Select 6061-T6 plates, bars, or profiles (thickness 0.5-100mm), and pretreat to remove the oxide layer.
  3. Processing and Forming:
    • CNC Milling/Turning: The core process, using 5-axis CNC machines to process complex shapes, such as brackets or heat sinks. Tolerances can reach ±0.01mm.
    • Extrusion/Drawing: Used for profile customization, such as car body frames.
    • Casting: Sand casting or die casting is used for large parts, followed by machining for finishing.
  4. Heat Treatment: T6 process (solution treatment at 530℃ + artificial aging at 175℃ × 8h) to improve strength.
  5. Surface Treatment: Anodizing (Type II, providing a corrosion-resistant layer), bead blasting, or powder coating to achieve custom colors such as black/red, improving wear resistance and aesthetics.
  6. Quality Inspection and Packaging: Dimension measurement (CMM), strength testing, and surface inspection. QC confirmation before shipment.

The entire cycle takes 7-30 days depending on the complexity, supporting rapid prototyping (3-5 days).
