Their main functions include: forming a sealed combustion chamber together with the piston and cylinder head; guiding the piston in reciprocating motion; transferring the enormous heat generated by combustion to the surrounding cooling water; and their inner wall also forms a lubricating oil film space to reduce friction and wear.
The machining process requires extremely high precision, typically including: first, rough turning and finish turning to form the basic shape and ensure uniform wall thickness; the critical inner hole processing requires boring and honing to achieve extremely high dimensional accuracy, geometric shape, and mirror-like finish, which is crucial for ensuring sealing and lubrication. In addition, surface heat treatment (such as quenching) or plateau honing processes are used to further improve wear resistance and service life.
