Liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tanks are specifically designed for storing liquefied natural gas. Liquefied natural gas is produced by cooling natural gas to approximately -162°C (-260°F), resulting in an extremely low temperature and high energy density. Therefore, LNG storage tanks require special designs and materials to meet safety, insulation, and low-temperature resistance requirements.
LNG storage tanks must be able to withstand extremely low temperatures and typically use low-temperature resistant materials such as 9% nickel steel, stainless steel, or aluminum alloys to prevent material embrittlement. LNG storage tanks are widely used in LNG receiving terminals, liquefaction plants, storage and transportation stations, and LNG fueling stations for storing liquefied natural gas for industrial, civil, or export transportation purposes.
