1. Uses
Vertical petroleum storage tanks are mainly used to store crude oil, refined oil products (such as gasoline, diesel, kerosene, etc.) or liquefied petroleum gas and other media. They are widely used in oil depots, refineries, chemical plants and other places to ensure the safe storage and stable supply of oil products.
2. Classification
According to design and use, vertical petroleum storage tanks can be classified as follows:
- By structural form:
- Fixed Roof Tanks: The top is a fixed arc-shaped roof, suitable for storing oil products with low volatility.
- Floating Roof Tanks: The top floating pan rises and falls with the liquid level, reducing oil evaporation loss, suitable for storing highly volatile oil products such as gasoline.
- Internal Floating Roof Tanks: Combining the characteristics of fixed roof and floating roof, taking into account both sealing and safety.
- By material: Mainly steel storage tanks (Q235 or higher strength steel), which dominate due to their low cost, leak-proof nature, and convenient construction. Non-metallic storage tanks (such as reinforced concrete) have been gradually eliminated due to safety hazards.
- By capacity: Generally above 100 m³, belonging to large storage tanks, with common capacities ranging from thousands to hundreds of thousands of cubic meters.
3. Structural Features
- Tank body: Welded with steel plates, the common material is Q235-AF (ordinary carbon steel) or higher strength steel. Low-temperature steel may be used in cold regions.
- Tank bottom: Flat bottom design, some may be conical or inclined bottom for easy drainage.
- Tank top: Fixed top or floating top depending on the type. Floating roof tanks are equipped with safety devices such as flame arresters and single-breathing valves on the floating pan edge.
- Accessories: Including breather valves, flame arresters, level gauges, oil inlet and outlet pipelines, ladders, platforms, etc., to ensure safe operation and maintenance
